Dr. Hany Ragy, Attending Consultant Cardiologist and head of department at the National Heart Institute – Imbaba – Egypt since the year 2007, worked in same hospital since employment after graduation as a cardiology fellow in 1982.

  6. Formally trained in most interentional techniques as Rotablation, Atherectomy, Valvular procedures , Carotid procedures and a current heavy user of IVUS and FFR.

Experience

  1. Invasive cardiology: high volume principal operator at the National Heart Institute cath lab, the facility includes 5 cath labs with a volume of over 15000 cases /year, Dr Ragy performs about 700 PCI cases per year as the primary operator.
  2. Dr. Ragy is also the director of the cath lab at the Hayat hospital in Cairo and a principal operator in the Cairo Catheter Center, International Medical center, Dar Al Fouad Hospital .
  3. 27 years experience in other aspects of cardiology with keen interests in Echocardiography including recent training in contrast echo.
  4. Another area of interest is hypertension, Dr Ragy operates the Cairo Hypertension clinic which is a centre of excellence for management of hypertension, and was the chairman of the annual meeting of the Egyptian society of hypertension in Cairo in April 2010.
  5. Since September 2010 Dr Ragy has established the Egypt Branch of SHAPE (Society for heart attack prevention and eradication) web site www.shapeegypt.com
  6. Anti-smoking activity: Pro bono clinic offering free counseling for all smokers with one to one support and group therapy, also lectures in underprivileged government schools in cooperation with Rotary clubs to advise students against smoking

 Research and training

  1. Experience as an investigator in international CRT’s including FDA monitored trials using investigational devices (IDE).
  2. Formal training in GCP in the USA in the year 2000.
  3. Published many papers and abstracts in national and international journals including the European Heart Journal and the American journal of Cardiology (full list available).

  5. Teaches in Egyptian Cardiology fellowship program.
  6. International reviewer for the CCI (Catheterization and Cardiovascular interventions) the official Journal of SCAI, Asian Annals of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, and reviewer for the Egyptian Journal of Cardiology
  7. Proctorship and training of doctors in Egypt and the Arab world including Syria and Libya for multinational device and drug companies including BSC, J & J, MSD & Novartis among other companies.
  8. Part of the NHI traveling team which operated on exchange programs inAfrica.
  9. Participated in several DES registries including the BSC Olympia registry and Medtronic’s E5 registry.
  10. The Principal investigator of the Egyptian real life Xience V registry-Xience Nile- a multicentre all comers registry of the Xience V DES of 426 patients.

  12. Has a large experience in all aspects of interventional cardiology procedures since 1992 including most coronary interventions including IVUS and more recently FFR, and valvular interventions which includes thousands of cases and is currently continuing on daily basis started working regularly in the cath lab in 1983 but was mostly diagnostic procedures till 1992.
  13. Has a particular interest in training cath lab staff and personnel.
